MOCA

The UAB Heersink School of Medicine’s Department of Anesthesia partners with UAB Clinical Simulation to offer the ASA-endorsed Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesia (MOCA) simulation course to meet the requirements set forth by The American Board of Anesthesiology. The offered courses are designed to realistically re-create challenging clinical cases and enable participants to problem-solve in a manner that is similar to a clinical experience.This is a one-day simulation experience fulfills the Practice Performance Assessment and Improvement (PPAI) Part IV requirements of The American Board of Anesthesiology MOCA program. Candidates are encouraged to visit The American Board of Anesthesiology to clarify their own personal requirements.

UAB Clinical Simulation offers high-fidelity, immersive simulations tailored for individual participants in a controlled clinical setting. Anesthesiologists will practice crisis resource management techniques followed by deliberate feedback with simulation-trained experts. The setting is professional, yet relaxed, where there are no mistakes, just opportunities for learning. Scenarios have been developed to be fair, yet challenging enough for the experienced board-certified anesthesiologist. Participants attending this MOCA simulation course can expect small class sizes and courteous staff who are respectful of the participants’ busy schedules.
